Rubin Foundation granteePepatian shares news about recent projects Shadow Lands and Hip-Hop Academy

As part of our arts education initiative the Rubin Foundation funded the following projects in visual art, music, dance and spoken word at Pepatian in 2016:

Pepatian's Shadow Lands project provided two artists in dance and spoken word with rehearsal space and teaching opportunity with a public workshop at collaborating venue BAAD! (Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance). Their final project was then performed at BAAD! and incorporated elements shared by participants during the multi-disciplinary workshop, along with audience dialogue supported by community partner, VIPMujeres. The artists were invited to present an excerpt from Shadow Lands at the next VIPMujeres community event, Denim Day on April 27, at the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community Center (Bronx).

Pepatián in collaboration with BronxWorks also presented the fifth annual Hip-Hop Academy from March 7 to April 1. Through this partnership they provided workshops with visual artist Sien Ide, choreographer Violeta Galagarza, musician DJ Chela, and spoken word performer Caridad De La Luz,  in addition to a panel discussion on entrepreneurship with a follow-up career lab and field trip to a local, artist-owned and operated business.
