In My Name

Saturday, 11/14, from 4 to 5pm

"My name is Sarah Sanders. Like the press secretary. My last name would have been Schneiderman but my grandfather changed it to sound less Jewish. And here I am, a white, queer, ritual-craving, anti-Zionist Jew from Montana who shares a name with a white nationalist apologist."

In My Name is a mostly-solo theatre piece by Queer|Art|Mentorship Performance Fellow Sarah Sanders using original music, ritual, personal narrative, and emails to the former White House press secretary to grapple with the ways that Sarah's whiteness and American Jewish identity intersect— and to ask (where) does spirituality fit into all this? This event is produced in partnership with Abrons Arts Center and will take place in their outdoor amphitheater. Following the performance, please stick around for a sunset bonfire.

This event is part of the 2019-2020 Queer|Art|Mentorship Annual Exhibition, curated by current Fellow Anthonywash.Rosado and titled ARCANUM, open from October 29, 2020 through January 7, 2021. The exhibition will present across multiple formats and locations, including a virtual gallery and public outdoor performances throughout New York City, new work by graduating Fellows of the 2019-2020 Queer|Art|Mentorship program: Brian Gonzalez, Patrick G. Lee, María José Maldonado, Felli Maynard, Olaiya Olayemi, Sarah Sanders, and Sarah Zapata.
